The intensified imbalance in the import and export of fertilizers reflects that the dependence of the entire fertilizer market on exports is gradually deepening. Total fertilizer demand in 2010 totaled approximately 68.5 million tons (equivalent), an increase of approximately 6.5 million tons over the previous year, of which domestic consumption increased by 3.4 million tons; while exports increased by 3.1 million tons. Imbalance in fertilizer import and export
In 2010, China’s imports and exports of chemical fertilizers all increased significantly, but the increase in exports was much higher than the former, leading to an increase in the imbalance between imports and exports. Calculated in kind, a total of approximately 6.98 million tons of chemical fertilizers were imported in the year, an increase of 71.5% year-on-year; exports of fertilizers were approximately 15.3 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 70.6%; net exports were 8.32 million tons.
