Mazda’s Funds Difficulties Stop Developing R&D Engines Previously, according to Mr. Fujiwara, head of product marketing and power R&D for Mazda, he said that due to financial difficulties, they will stop the development of Mazda's rotor engines and will concentrate on the research and development of SKYACTIV technology.

Fujiwara said that due to pressure from the international economic situation, Mazda had to reassess some of the current R&D plans in the group. After the assessment, Mazda made a decision to stop the development of a rotary engine and will concentrate on the research and development of SKYACTIV technology.

Fujiwara also stated that the rotary engine as the core technology of Mazda's automotive products will not be permanently abandoned. After the SKYACTIV technology is in the R&D stage and it is on track, Mazda will have sufficient funds to continue to develop rotary engines.
